"HEALTH AND SAFETY" @ FIFTY24PDX...

London-based artist Will Barras will present a new series of artwork and installations in this month's exhibit at FIFTY24PDX Gallery. "Health and Safety" displays Barras's fascination with bike culture, city-life, and his interest in soapbox derbies. Originally inspired by hiphop and BMX graphics, Barras's art has evolved to show his perception of the world around him, producing layers of pastel background finely detailed by black, flowing lines. Following his artistic calling, Barras helped form the UK's Scrawl Collective in the late 90s. With the motto of "Hand B4 Mouse," this group of young artists strives to put customary mediums of paint, pen and paper over computer-generated images. Barras has gained international recognition for his own work, as well as touring Japan, Europe and the U.S. with other members of the Scrawl Collective to exhibit group shows. An opening reception for "Health & Safety" will be held Thursday, June 7th, from 6:00-9:30PM. "Health & Safety" runs through July 28th, 2007.
